A method for producing a graphene layer using a colloidal graphene or multi-graphene layers using a multi-graphene dispersion, the colloidal graphene or the multi- graphene dispersion, respectively, obtained by a first method comprising the steps of: (i) stirring graphite oxide in an aqueous dispersion medium to form a dispersion; (ii) determining if the dispersion is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification after 1 to 5 hours of stirring, and, if not clear, removing any undissolved impurities in the dispersion, in order to form a colloidal graphene oxide dispersion, or a multi-graphene oxide dispersion, that is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification; and (iii) thermally reducing the graphene oxide, or multigraphene oxide, in dispersion in the aqueous dispersion medium at a temperature between 1 20° C and 1 70° C under pressure in order to ensure that the dispersion medium is not evaporated to form a stable colloidal graphene dispersion or a stable multi-graphene dispersion, wherein the method for producing the graphene layer using the colloidal graphene or multi-graphene layers using a multi-graphene dispersion, comprises, either the steps of: (1) deposit the dispersion of step (ii) on a substrate or precipitate the dispersion of step (ii); and -3- Patent Application Serial No. Unassigned Attorney Docket No. I CB0677 (2) then perform step (111); or (3) deposit the dispersion of step (111) on a substrate or precipitate the dispersion of step (111).
Multi-graphene layers obtained by the method of claim 23, wherein the multi-graphene layers have an inter-planar distance, in the multi-graphene layers, of greater than 3.35 A.
A colloidal graphene dispersion obtained by the method comprising the steps of: (i) stirring graphite oxide in an aqueous dispersion medium to form a dispersion; (ii) determining if the dispersion is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification after 1 to 5 hours of stirring, and, if not clear, removing any undissolved impurities in the dispersion, in order to form a colloidal graphene oxide dispersion, or a multi-graphene oxide dispersion, that is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification; and (iii) forming a stable colloidal graphene dispersion or a stable multi-graphene dispersion by thermally reducing the graphene oxide, or the multi-graphene oxide, in dispersion in the aqueous dispersion medium at a temperature between 1 20° C and 1 70°C under pressure in order to ensure that the dispersion medium is not evaporated; wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a C/O ratio of at least 4.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a graphene content of 0.1 % to 0.5 % by weight.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion does not comprise any dispersant.
A method for generating electronically conducting nanoparticles using the colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the method for generating electronically conducting nanoparticles comprises the steps of: (a- 1) coating nanoparticles with the colloidal graphene dispersion; and (a-2) then thermally reducing said coated particles in dispersion to get nanoparticles coated with graphene/multi-graphene of a C/O ratio of at least 13.5.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a C/O ratio of between about 4 and about 20.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a graphene content of about 0.1 % by weight.
A multi-graphene dispersion obtained by the method comprising the steps of: (i) stirring graphite oxide in an aqueous dispersion medium to form a dispersion; -4- Patent Application Serial No. Unassigned Attorney Docket No. I CB0677 (ii) determining if the dispersion is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification after 1 to 5 hours of stirring, and, if not clear, removing any undissolved impurities in the dispersion, in order to form a colloidal graphene oxide dispersion, or a multi-graphene oxide dispersion, that is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification; and (iii) forming a stable colloidal graphene dispersion or a stable multi-graphene dispersion by thermally reducing the graphene oxide, or the multigraphene oxide, in dispersion in the aqueous dispersion medium at a temperature between 120 ° C and 170 °C under pressure in order to ensure that the dispersion medium is not evaporated; wherein the multi-graphene dispersion has an inter-planar distance, in the multi-graphene dispersion, of greater than 3.35 A.
A method for preparing an electrode for rechargeable lithium ion batteries using the multigraphene dispersion according to claim 27, wherein the method comprises the step of: (b- 1) providing the multi-graphene dispersion; and (b-2) coating a conductor with said multi-graphene dispersion, optionally, in the presence of a binder.
A multi-graphene dispersion according to claim 27, wherein the multi- graphene dispersion has an inter-planar distance, in the multi-graphene dispersion, of greater than 3.40 A.
A method for preparing an electrode for rechargeable lithium ion batteries using the multigraphene layers according to claim 44, wherein the method comprises the steps of: (c- 1) providing the multi-graphene layers, wherein the multi-graphene layers have a low C/O ratio of at most 13; and (c-2) coating a conductor with said multi-graphene layers, optionally, in the presence of a binder.

A colloidal graphene dispersion obtained by the method comprising the steps of: (i) stirring graphite oxide in an aqueous dispersion medium to form a dispersion; (ii) determining if the dispersion is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification after 1 to 5 hours of stirring, and, if not clear, removing any undissolved impurities in the dispersion, in order to form a colloidal graphene oxide dispersion, or a multi-graphene oxide dispersion, that is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification; and (iii) forming a stable colloidal graphene dispersion or a stable multi-graphene dispersion by thermally reducing the graphene oxide, or the multi-graphene oxide, in dispersion in the aqueous dispersion medium at a temperature between 1 20° C and 1 70°C under pressure in order to ensure that the dispersion medium is not evaporated; wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a C/O ratio of at least 4.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a graphene content of 0.1 % to 0.5 % by weight.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion does not comprise any dispersant.
A method for generating electronically conducting nanoparticles using the colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the method for generating electronically conducting nanoparticles comprises the steps of: (a- 1) coating nanoparticles with the colloidal graphene dispersion; and (a-2) then thermally reducing said coated particles in dispersion to get nanoparticles coated with graphene/multi-graphene of a C/O ratio of at least 13.5.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a C/O ratio of between about 4 and about 20.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a graphene content of about 0.1 % by weight.

The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a graphene content of 0.1 % to 0.5 % by weight.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion does not comprise any dispersant.
A method for generating electronically conducting nanoparticles using the colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the method for generating electronically conducting nanoparticles comprises the steps of: (a- 1) coating nanoparticles with the colloidal graphene dispersion; and (a-2) then thermally reducing said coated particles in dispersion to get nanoparticles coated with graphene/multi-graphene of a C/O ratio of at least 13.5.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a C/O ratio of between about 4 and about 20.

A method for producing a graphene layer using a colloidal graphene or multi-graphene layers using a multi-graphene dispersion, the colloidal graphene or the multi- graphene dispersion, respectively, obtained by a first method comprising the steps of: (i) stirring graphite oxide in an aqueous dispersion medium to form a dispersion; (ii) determining if the dispersion is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification after 1 to 5 hours of stirring, and, if not clear, removing any undissolved impurities in the dispersion, in order to form a colloidal graphene oxide dispersion, or a multi-graphene oxide dispersion, that is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification; and (iii) thermally reducing the graphene oxide, or multigraphene oxide, in dispersion in the aqueous dispersion medium at a temperature between 1 20° C and 1 70° C under pressure in order to ensure that the dispersion medium is not evaporated to form a stable colloidal graphene dispersion or a stable multi-graphene dispersion, wherein the method for producing the graphene layer using the colloidal graphene or multi-graphene layers using a multi-graphene dispersion, comprises, either the steps of: (1) deposit the dispersion of step (ii) on a substrate or precipitate the dispersion of step (ii); and -3- Patent Application Serial No. Unassigned Attorney Docket No. I CB0677 (2) then perform step (111); or (3) deposit the dispersion of step (111) on a substrate or precipitate the dispersion of step (111).
Multi-graphene layers obtained by the method of claim 23, wherein the multi-graphene layers have an inter-planar distance, in the multi-graphene layers, of greater than 3.35 A.
A colloidal graphene dispersion obtained by the method comprising the steps of: (i) stirring graphite oxide in an aqueous dispersion medium to form a dispersion; (ii) determining if the dispersion is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification after 1 to 5 hours of stirring, and, if not clear, removing any undissolved impurities in the dispersion, in order to form a colloidal graphene oxide dispersion, or a multi-graphene oxide dispersion, that is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification; and (iii) forming a stable colloidal graphene dispersion or a stable multi-graphene dispersion by thermally reducing the graphene oxide, or the multi-graphene oxide, in dispersion in the aqueous dispersion medium at a temperature between 1 20° C and 1 70°C under pressure in order to ensure that the dispersion medium is not evaporated; wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a C/O ratio of at least 4.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a graphene content of 0.1 % to 0.5 % by weight.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion does not comprise any dispersant.
A method for generating electronically conducting nanoparticles using the colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the method for generating electronically conducting nanoparticles comprises the steps of: (a- 1) coating nanoparticles with the colloidal graphene dispersion; and (a-2) then thermally reducing said coated particles in dispersion to get nanoparticles coated with graphene/multi-graphene of a C/O ratio of at least 13.5.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a C/O ratio of between about 4 and about 20.
The colloidal graphene dispersion according to claim 24, wherein the colloidal graphene dispersion has a graphene content of about 0.1 % by weight.
A multi-graphene dispersion obtained by the method comprising the steps of: (i) stirring graphite oxide in an aqueous dispersion medium to form a dispersion; -4- Patent Application Serial No. Unassigned Attorney Docket No. I CB0677 (ii) determining if the dispersion is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification after 1 to 5 hours of stirring, and, if not clear, removing any undissolved impurities in the dispersion, in order to form a colloidal graphene oxide dispersion, or a multi-graphene oxide dispersion, that is optically clear in a light microscope at 1000 fold magnification; and (iii) forming a stable colloidal graphene dispersion or a stable multi-graphene dispersion by thermally reducing the graphene oxide, or the multigraphene oxide, in dispersion in the aqueous dispersion medium at a temperature between 120 ° C and 170 °C under pressure in order to ensure that the dispersion medium is not evaporated; wherein the multi-graphene dispersion has an inter-planar distance, in the multi-graphene dispersion, of greater than 3.35 A.
A method for preparing an electrode for rechargeable lithium ion batteries using the multigraphene dispersion according to claim 27, wherein the method comprises the step of: (b- 1) providing the multi-graphene dispersion; and (b-2) coating a conductor with said multi-graphene dispersion, optionally, in the presence of a binder.
A multi-graphene dispersion according to claim 27, wherein the multi- graphene dispersion has an inter-planar distance, in the multi-graphene dispersion, of greater than 3.40 A.
