A method used in a mobile station for establishing a connection with a generic access network (GAN), the method comprising: the mobile station issuing a request message to the GAN to request for establishment of the connection; the mobile station starting a timer with a timeout longer than five seconds; and the mobile station determining a state of the mobile station according to a response message corresponding to the request message when the response message is received within the timeout, and the mobile station startin g a rove-out procedure to rove out to another network when the response message is not received within the timeout.
The method of claim 1, wherein the timeout of the timer is no more than nine seconds.
The method of claim 1, wherein the connection is a Generic Access- Circuit Switched Resources (GA-CSR) connection or a Generic Access-Packet Switched Resources (GA-PSR) connection.
The method of slai-6 claim 1, wherein the rove-out procedure comprises changing the state of the mobile station to a Generic Access- Resource Control (GA-RC) De-Registered state when the response message is not received within the timeout, so as to prevent the mobile station from sticking in an idle state due to the response messa g e is not received from the GAN within the timeout.
The method of claim 1, further comprising adjusting the timeout of the timer according to a round-trip time between the issuing of the request message and the receiving of the response message.
