Abstract

In disordered topological materials, real-space crystalline defects interplay with momentum-space wave function singularities to enhance the bulk photovoltaic current. The paper argues that the interband Berry phase has optical vorticity in topological materials with nontrivial Chern numbers, and develops a kinetic model for impurity-mediated ballistic photocurrent in disordered Dirac-Weyl systems. It derives frequency-scaling laws and symmetry constraints for the bulk photovoltaic tensor, with case studies on multifold fermions, 3D m-order Weyl semimetals, 2D n-order Dirac systems, rhombohedral graphene, transition metal dichalcogenides, and topological surface states.
