Abstract

We investigate the ground-state phase diagram of a moiré ladder, a one-dimensional two-leg ladder with spatially modulated interleg hopping and a uniform magnetic flux, using bosonization and density matrix renormalization group methods. The work disentangles the roles of flux and hopping modulation in producing a finite-interaction metal-insulator transition and unconventional ferromagnetic correlations at half filling and beyond, and shows that periodic interleg hopping alone does not generate the observed correlated phases.
