Abstract

The paper proposes a design principle for enhancing shift current in multiband systems by exploiting inter-orbital mixing and virtual multiband transitions. The mechanism is illustrated with a one-dimensional stacked Rice-Mele model and applied to alternating-angle twisted multilayer graphene, where band hybridization and near-degenerate flat bands can increase shift current response.
